An Ambitious, Personalised Curriculum for Key Stage 4

At Edintervention School, our Key Stage 4 curriculum is designed to open doors, broaden horizons and prepare young people for a successful transition into Post-16 study, training or employment.
We provide a broad, balanced and ambitious programme that combines academic qualifications, life-skills development, therapeutic support and enriching experiences that reflect our values: Engage, Educate and Enjoy.
Our pupils come to us with different learning journeys, strengths and barriers. We recognise that one size does not fit all.
That’s why our curriculum is flexible, personalised and responsive, ensuring every learner has a pathway that matches their goals, abilities and needs.

Science, delivered through AQA Science - Biology at KS4, encourages curiosity, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the natural world. We provide engaging, practical learning experiences that build secure biological knowledge and support pupils to apply scientific understanding with confidence.
Our approach includes:
Hands-on experiments and investigations
Linking science to everyday contexts
Clear explanations supported by visuals and scaffolding
Opportunities to gain recognised qualifications (GCSE or Entry Level Certificates)
Pupils learn to observe, question, predict and evaluate — essential skills for further education and life.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economic education)

PSHE is a cornerstone of our curriculum and supports the whole-child approach that sits at the heart of Edintervention.
It helps pupils develop:
Emotional regulation and self-awareness
Healthy relationships and consent
Online safety and digital citizenship
Physical and mental wellbeing
Financial literacy
Careers education and “next steps” planning
Lessons are trauma-informed, discussion-based and responsive to pupil needs.
We provide a safe space to explore important issues and build life skills that support independence and personal development.

Humanities (History/Geography)

Our Humanities programme offers a rich and engaging curriculum through a half-termly rotation of History and Geography, ensuring pupils benefit from both disciplines across the year. Designed for an independent and alternative education setting, lessons are highly adaptive, trauma-informed, and responsive to individual starting points, helping every learner build confidence, curiosity, and a stronger understanding of the world around them.
Across each half term, pupils explore a focused theme or enquiry question, developing key knowledge alongside core skills such as critical thinking, analysis, research, and structured discussion. History units encourage learners to investigate people, power, conflict, and change over time, while Geography units build understanding of places, environments, and human impact on the planet.

PE (Physical Education)

PE helps pupils build physical health, confidence and social skills.
Our programme focuses on participation, enjoyment and personal improvement rather than competition.
Activities include:
Fitness and wellbeing
Team sports
Individual skill-based activities
Outdoor learning
Health and exercise education
We encourage pupils to set personal goals, build resilience and experience success in a supportive environment.

English
Maths
ICT / Digital Skills (where appropriate)
These qualifications:
Build real-world competencies
Support progression to college or apprenticeships
Provide accessible, achievable milestones
Boost confidence and independence
Functional Skills are integrated throughout the curriculum and linked to day-to-day life skills.
